Whist
DEAL A standard deck of 52 cards is used. 13 cards are dealt out to all four players. The final card is placed face-up on the table to show trump for the hand. PLAY The object of the game is to win as many tricks as possible with your partner sitting across the table. Ace is high and two is low. Trump cards will beat any non-trump card. Play begins with the player to the left of the dealer who can lead any card. Play continues in a clockwise order to the dealer. Each player must follow the lead suit unless they don't have any cards in that suit. In that case the player may play any card. The player who lays the highest trump or highest card following the lead suit wins the trick and leads a new card. SCORING The team who takes the most tricks receives 1 point for every trick won over 6. For example, a team who takes 8 tricks will receive 2 points. The first team to reach 7 points wins the game.
